CLASSIC PROGRAMS

Ballet

  • Ballet is the solid foundation of theatrical dance. In this program, our instructors work with our ballet students to learn and advance their technical skills, including body alignment and grace, discipline and aesthetic purity of line, self-discipline, and graceful confidence, while fostering a love for music and movement in this elegant art form.

Tap

  • Tap into our rhythmic, exciting and high-energy tap classes. Our tap classes incorporate jazz and percussion-like sounds by striking the floor. We start our classes with the basic foundations in different tap styles and grow to advanced levels of intricate movements in various styles, including jumps, spins, rhythms, shading, syncopation and dexterity. Through a syncopation of music and dancer footwork, dancers become performers and musicians on the dance floor.

Jazz

  • Our jazz classes combine modern, contemporary, funk, and ballet dance techniques. We start our classes with the basic foundations, and our students develop flexibility, strength, and coordination. As they grow to the advanced grade, they will learn a more complex range of choreography with technical jumps and turns. Experience the art of Jazz dance with us.

Contemporary Modern

  • Contemporary Modern dance is an expressive style that combines elements of several dance genres with new movements and improvisation. Through contemporary dance, students must first learn the rules like pros so they can break them like artists. Our courses are based on pioneers of modern dance, Graham and Limoné techniques. Our dancers will learn expressive movement, innovative approaches, and boundless creativity in this expressive dance style.

Hip Hop

  • This high-energy class is guaranteed to inspire every dancer. It incorporates a wide range of styles, including breakin’, locking, poppin’, street choreography, funk, and freestyle movements, making it a popular and engaging dance style for individuals of all ages. Our students start by learning each hip-hop genre’s foundations and advancing their skills to more challenging variations. Join our dance family and let the music move you!

Acrobatic dance

  • Acrobatics combines classical dance with gymnastics, enhancing strength, balance, and flexibility. Students benefit from taking jazz or ballet classes alongside acrobatics. This helps them progress quickly and maintain their skills. Acrobatic dance increases strength, flexibility, muscle control, discipline, and coordination. Typical moves include walkovers, handstands, chest rolls, and conditioning exercises, which are taught step-by-step to prepare dancers for increased difficulty.

Aerial Hoops & Silks

  • Aerial hoops (Lyra) and Silks are an artistic combination of acrobatics and hoop performances. Students will learn to perform on a suspended steel hoop or two pieces of silk fabric suspended from a height. We recommend that students also take acrobatics, as the skills are transferable. Initially, students will learn proper gripping, balance, strength, flexibility, technique, hangs, positioning, spins, and partner work. As they progress to the advanced levels, they add drops, contortion, and acrobatics to their skill set.

Musical Theatre

  • Showcase your artistic advancements in our musical theatre dance class through triple-threat singing, acting, and dancing training. In this class, dancers will learn and embody characters from various musicals, such as The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Frozen, and many more.

Exam classes

  • At Illustrated Movement Dance Academy, students benefit from taking exam classes, from preliminary to advanced teaching certifications. Our exam classes allow students to create new opportunities in an ever-changing industry.
